Why Surabaya?
Surabaya is the capital city of East Java, Indonesia’s most industrialised province with a regional GDP of US$68 billion, which grew by over 6% last year. With a population of over 38 million the Province represents a regional market bigger than Malaysia and Singapore combined. Trade and manufacturing account for 58% of the region’s GDP and these sectors have an annual targeted growth rate of 6.5%.
Surabaya is under going rapid change and now enjoys the reputation as being the cleanest city in Indonesia, equipped with modern facilities and offering a standard of accommodation to suit every taste and budget.
Home to the Indonesian Navy, Surabaya is one of the top 10 busiest cargo ports in South East Asia
The region’s major industrial event is Manufacturing Surabaya which highlights the opportunities in the Province’s most important industrial sectors – Machine Tool & Welding, Marine & Shipbuilding, Industrial Automation, Vehicle Manufacturing, Packaging & Plastics and Energy.
Held in the new purpose built Grand City Convention & Exhibition Centre, the 2011 event attracted 281 exhibitors from 25 countries and was attended by 7,419 trade and business visitors from throughout the region. In addition to the manufacturing sector the 2011 event was expanded to include Marine & Shipbuilding Surabaya and Electric, Power, Oil & Gas Surabaya, reflecting the priorities in the government’s East Indonesia Development Plan.
